CHIPPENHAM Town saw their FA Trophy ambitions come to an end in the third qualifying round as they were beaten 3-2 in a replay at Wingate & Finchley tonight.

The two sides could not be separated in Saturday's original tie at Hardenhuish Park after playing out a 1-1 draw, so headed back to north London in order to find a winner.

And it was the hosts who claimed passage into the first round proper as the Bluebirds came up short on the road despite Karnell Chambers' double.

Chambers had given Mark Collier's Chippenham the lead after 12 minutes but Rob Laney restored parity for the home side midway through the first half.

Wingate would then get their noses in front before the break as Reece Beckles-Richards struck on the half-hour mark.

The task facing the Bluebirds got stiffer in the second half as Luke Ifil added a third goal for the home side just before the hour.

Although Chippenham rallied in the closing stages and got another goal back through Chambers' second of the evening, it proved too little, too late as the Bluebirds were left to travel back to Wiltshire empty-handed.

Elsewhere, Swindon Supermarine's hopes of making it back-to-back midweek away wins in Southern League Premier Division South were scuppered by a waterlogged pitch as their trip to Poole Town was postponed.

Lee Spalding's side had previously triumphed at Frome Town a week earlier.

The wet weather was also a nuisance to Hellenic League sides as Malmesbury Victoria's Subsidiary Cup clash at home to Pewsey Vale was also postponed.

That was the case for Fairford Town too in their Gloucestershire FA Trophy game at home to Frampton United.
