WARMINSTER Town tasted victory in the Toolstation League First Division at the weekend as they triumphed 2-0 at home to Oldlands Abbotonians.

Martin Johnson and Jack Miluk got the goals at Weymouth Street.

Elsewhere, Corsham Town were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Sherborne Town.

Calne Town joint-manager Ben Redford was delighted with the way his side reacted after a two-week period without a game as they breezed past second-from-bottom Portishead Town 3-0.

The Lilywhites got off to the perfect start as winger Will Boakes’ low cross was diverted into the net by a Portishead defender in the 14th minute, before striker Stuart Windsor doubled their lead eight minutes later.

Captain Matt Hudson headed in Town’s third shortly before the end to cap off a professional performance and make it four wins in five league games for Calne.

Town have now gone 10 games unbeaten in the league, but despite his side’s win, Redford felt his players were guilty of wasting chances and perhaps showed some of the rustiness that had concerned him pre-match.

He said: “It was a comfortable day in the end. We had so many chances and could have killed it off much earlier than we did, and at the other end, we restricted them to very few chances at all.

“It was a good performance, though, especially given the fact that going into the game we had five key players out and we hadn’t played in two weeks.

“I was a bit worried about how we’d respond to having two weeks off, but the lads played well.

“If people would have looked at the league table then they would have expected us to have an easy win, but it doesn’t work like that.

“We had to make sure everyone was up for it because you can’t go into any game feeling complacent, it doesn’t matter where the opposition are in the league.

“The players who came in did really well and we had four 18-year-olds playing as well, so I’ll have a selection headache this weekend when everyone is available, but that can only be a good thing.”
