HARRISON Gough headed Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development to victory at home to Trowbridge Town as the final weekend of 2018 fixtures in the Wiltshire League Premier Division was decimated by the wet weather.

The contest at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground was the only one to take place on Saturday, with the league’s seven other scheduled matches all postponed because of the downpour.

An in-form Trowbridge arrived at Bassett looking to make it six league wins on the bounce, but saw that superb run ended as the hosts claimed a 3-2 victory.

The home side led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Carl Shepherd and Finley Sly.

However, within 10 minutes of the restart, Trowbridge were back on level terms as Joshua Hard put two past stand-in keeper Euan Burke.

Despite being pegged back, the home side rallied in the closing stages and got their just rewards 12 minutes from time when Gough headed in the winner at the far post.

Reigning league champions Kintbury Rangers will start 2019 sitting at the top of the table as they hold a three-point cushion over second-placed Wroughton.

At the other end of the table, Devizes Town Reserves currently prop up the standings with just two wins and seven points from their 15 league contests so far.
