AFTER last weekend’s snow, it was the turn of the rain to disrupt fixtures in the Trowbridge Windows and Conservatories-sponsored Trowbridge & District League, with only a handful of matches beating the foul of the weather and subsequent unplayable pitches.

Every match in Division One was postponed, but Division Two leaders Calne Town Reserves were in action and claimed a 3-0 win away at third-placed Aces to open up a three-point gap on the chasing pack at the top.

Two goals from Bill Boakes set Calne on their way to victory, with Brett Fairclough netting the other.

Warminster United lost their 100 per cent league record in their previous match after losing to second-placed Westbury United Development, so were delighted to get revenge with a 3-0 win in the return fixture.

Tom Martin led the way after helping himself to a hat-trick, and with five games in hand on the top three sides, Warminster look strong contenders for promotion.

Another team with five games in hand over the sides above them are Marshfield and a hat-trick from Tom Richards saw them to a convincing 5-0 win over bottom side Spencers.

Alex Fryer and Joe Hylands got the other goals to keep Marshfield in the promotion hunt.

WILTSHIRE JUNIOR CUP

THE last remaining Trowbridge & District League side, Semington Magpies, saw their county cup ambitions ended in the quarter-finals after a penalty shoot-out defeat to Minety.

Strikes from Kyle Morgan-Hemmings and a double from Marc Scammell saw the two sides level at 3-3 after extra time before Minety ended Semington’s hopes by winning 2-0 on penalties.
