WROUGHTON have opened up a three-point gap at the top of the Wiltshire League Premier Division table following a 3-1 victory away at Cricklade Town at the weekend.

The Weir Field side were level on points with Kintbury Rangers but took advantage of their rivals’ involvement in the Knockout Cup to pull clear.

Aaron Maximen’s opener for Wroughton was cancelled out by Cricklade’s Jonathan Peachey-Score but further strikes from Craig Bowden and Tom Dingle put the visitors back in control.

Fourth-placed Shrewton United were the next highest placed team to taste victory in the league as they won 2-0 at Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development thanks to goals from Ben Jenks and Craig Appleby.

Malmesbury Victoria Development put distance between themselves and the bottom two with a 4-1 success at Devizes Town Reserves.

Joe Tranter and Gareth Jones both bagged braces for Malmesbury, while James Dunford replied.

Pewsey Vale Development remain at the foot of the table but moved within a point of Devizes immediately above them following a 0-0 draw at home to Corsham Town Reserves.

The final league game of the weekend also ended all-square as Purton and Football ID played out a 2-2 draw.

Fred Porter and Will Fowler put Football ID in control, but home side Purton rallied in the closing stages and Sam English’s strike and a Chris Avery penalty earned them a point.

The game between Trowbridge Town and Marlborough Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Although Kintbury lost ground in the league title race, they had the consolation of moving into the Knockout Cup semi-finals with a 3-1 win at third-in-the-table Melksham Town Reserves.

Shaun Thorp’s opener for Kintbury was cancelled out by Billy Gleed, but Rangers responded and further strikes from Tom Mahoney and Fabio Pinto fired them into the last four.
