AFTER finishing as runners-up last term, Pheasant have finished top of the pile in the Chippenham & District Sunday League Premier Division this season – although the points that clinched them the title may not have arrived in the best of circumstances as they were awarded their match away at FC Bradford when their opponents were unable to raise a team.

A 4-1 victory for FC Lacock away at Westbury Rangers means the villagers will finish as runners-up behind Pheasant.

Ryan Ross gave Lacock the lead on 12 minutes and Josh Bright doubled the advantage before the break. Will Stevens made it 3-0 at the start of the second half and a Nathan own goal put Lacock 4-0 up before Stewart Lisowski scored a late consolation for Rangers.

Near neighbours AFC Melksham and Semington played out a 2-2 draw to consolidate their respective fifth and fourth-placed positions in the table.

After a goalless first period, efforts from Ed McCormack and Danny Rimmer put Semington 2-0 up. However, Adam Welch and then Jack Woolsgrove netted in the final 10 minutes to earn Melksham a share of the spoils.

Box Rovers claimed a narrow 1-0 success at home to Bath Road as Adam Mitchell’s goal midway through the second half proved to be the difference between the teams.

Division Two

The match between Worton & Cheverell and Sporting Box, which would have taken the former top of the standings had they won, was abandoned after 21 minutes following an injury to a Sporting player with the score at 2-2.

Adam MacLean and Tom Lewis had scored for Box, with Ben House and Darren Lewis netting for Worton.

Subsidiary Cup

OLD Road took over top spot in Group Three of the Gooding Accounts-sponsored Subsidiary Cup thanks to a 3-0 victory over The Foresters Arms.

Sam Van Weenan, Aaron Holbrook and Julian Myles were on target for Will Green’s side.

The results sets up a winner-takes-all clash with Sporting Box next weekend for the remaining semi-final spot. Due to their better goal difference, a draw would be good enough for Old Road in what promises to be a thrilling game.
