LIVERPOOL goalkeeper Shamal George will be introduced to Swindon Town goalkeeping coach Steve Mildenhall this week, amid the possibility of the young stopper joining the Wiltshire club.

The Daily Mail reported on Saturday that 21-year-old George, born in Wirral, is close to agreeing terms with Richie Wellens following 10 seasons at Liverpool – during which he made one appearance in a friendly against Huddersfield.

Wellens has since confirmed to the Adver that George will visit the Beversbrook Sports Facility – Town’s training base – to meet club goalkeeping coach Mildenhall with a view to agreeing a permanent move.

George would be Wellens’ fourth goalkeeper should he sign, joining first-choice stopper Luke McCormick, youngster Will Henry and academy graduate Archie Matthews.

Wellens said: “I’ve spoken to Shamal (George). Nothing is agreed yet, it’s been difficult because Steve Mildenhall likes his holidays!

“The most important person to have a conversation with before signing a ‘keeper is the goalkeeping coach.

“Steve is back from holiday now, so I’ll introduce Shamal to him and take things from there.”
