CHIPPENHAM archer Pauline Burfitt is celebrating a double success – including a world record.

Burfitt, who has represented England and Great Britain internationally, was the top scoring lady in the compound style bow class at the recent Grand Western Archery Society Championships to become West regional champion.

Having also won the regional indoor championship in February, she is now the reigning indoor and outdoor champion for the West.

Burfitt’s second success – and a major highlight of her archery career – was that on returning home to Chippenham following the regional championships, she discovered that the sport’s global governing body, World Archery, had ratified her attempt at a world record.

Burfitt’s points score for shooting 144 arrows at 50m target at a tournament run by Bristol-based club Cleve Archers back in May has been recognised as a new world record for a master ladies archer shooting a compound bow.
