WARMINSTER proved too strong for county rivals Melksham as they claimed a 39-13 win at home in Dorset & Wilts One North at the weekend.

The hosts were first on the scoreboard, repeatably taking the ball in and offloading to work their way into the defending half. Reid Curtis was the man to touch down as Jason Sprangle converted.

Melksham hit straight back as Luke Cador crossed the whitewash, converted by Alistair Smith.

However, Warminster pounced again just before half-time and Jack McIntyre’s try and Sprangle’s conversion moved them 14-7 ahead.

The teams traded penalty points after the restart, with Melksham slotting two to move within four points of Warminster.

However, the home side enjoyed a purple patch in the final quarter of the game, running in three unanswered tries and another penalty to wrap up the win.

Pete Evans, Dom Davey and M Wallis all got over the whitewash, while Sprangle and Jimmy Rees added one conversion apiece.

Elsewhere, Bradford on Avon find themselves at the foot of the early table following a thumping 55-7 defeat at Avonvale.
