MELKSHAM marked their first home fixture of the Dorset & Wilts One North season with a win as they earned a 20-5 success over Minety.

The two teams traded possession in the first quarter, with decisions at the breakdown influencing the game.

Minety were first on the scoreboard with a pushover try, although the conversion went wide.

Immediately from the restart, Melksham hit back as the loose ball was gathered by Luke Cador to run down the wing and level the scores.

The next home points came from lineout ball stolen by Steve Watson, with Melksham carrying through traffic before the ball was shipped to Callum Hurn to fend off defenders for a try. Ali Smith added the conversion to make it 12-5 to Melksham at half-time.

Watson got the ball rolling again for the hosts after the break, carrying the ball hard to get over the tryline to edge his side further clear.

The final points came from the boot of Smith as a penalty pushed Melksham’s advantage to 15 points.

Elsewhere, Warminster were beaten 42-24 away at Royal Wootton Bassett 2nd and there was also disappointment for Bradford on Avon as they fell to a narrow 20-19 defeat at home to Calne.
