WESTBURY United manager Neil Kirkpatrick said the majority of his squad ‘went home happy’ after Mark Robinson scored a late leveller in his side’s 1-1 draw against Tavistock on Saturday.

After seeing a first-half effort ruled out for offside, Westbury went behind in Devon but rallied and had another good chance cleared off the line before the break.

The game continued in an open and exciting fashion in the second half, and once Tavistock were unable to find a second goal to kill of Westbury hopes of a comeback, the visitors made them pay late on as Jamie Jordan’s free-kick was headed home by Robinson.

Westbury manager Kirkpatrick admitted he could have few grumbles about the final result and praised his players for adding another point to their tally.

He said: “We felt we had enough chances to win it, but they had a little spell where they created a few chances too, so I would say it was about the right the right result.

“We would have all taken that before the game because when you go down there, it’s always a tough place to play and they’re clearly a very good side.

“They’ve shown that at the start of the season in the league and with their FA Cup run, so most people on our side went home happy.

“There’s always that case of ‘what if?’ but it’s still a hard-earned point on the board.”

Westbury’s weekend draw took them to four games unbeaten in the Toolstation Premier Division after an excellent win at home to Bitton earlier in the month.

But that run will be under real threat this week, according to Kirkpatrick, as Westbury face Bridgewater Town on Wednesday night before travelling down to Plymouth Parkway on Saturday.

Kirkpatrick has been pleased with the spirit his players have shown after a difficult start to the season, and the Westbury boss has asked his squad to continue to battle for every ball as they see out a tough month of games.

He said: “We’re certainly more solid now than the start of the season.

“We’ve got another tough game at the weekend – so it doesn’t get any easier that’s for sure – but as long as we play well, compete and do all the right things, we can match anybody in this league, we know that.

“The lads have set the bar in the last few weeks, so it’s important we continue that.

“The togetherness is there still, the desire and the hunger too.

“All credit to the players for that because it ruins everybody’s weekend when we lose and it looks like we haven’t competed.”

Elsewhere, Bradford Town suffered late heartbreak as they conceded late in a 2-2 draw away at Cribbs on Saturday.

Following an underwhelming start by Bradford, the hosts took the lead in the first half before Tyson Pollard whipped home a smart free-kick to draw the Bobcats level.

Gary Higdon’s excellent finish in the second half appeared to have snatched all three points for the away side, however, Cribbs struck late through Jacob Hodgson to share the spoils.

Bradford’s draw was their first of the season, but the results still leaves them in second place.

Wayne Thorne’s side are also in action on Wednesday as they welcome Bitton to Trowbridge Road.
