GREAT Bedwyn’s Lewis Fletcher admits he is hungrier than ever to scoop gold at the World Deaf Tennis Championships, after returning from the most recent staging in Turkey at the weekend with two silver medals to his name.

Fletcher partnered with 17-year-old Esah Hayat to scoop silver in the senior men’s doubles before the Wiltshire talent added another silver to his medal collection in the mixed doubles with Pheobe Suthers, 16.

Fletcher perhaps felt a little frustrated to leave the Antalya Tennis Club without a gold to his name – particularly after he and Suthers lost on a tie break German top seeds Urs Breitenberger and Heike Albrecht.

Breitenberger and Albrecht recovered to win the contest’s tie break 10-5.

In the mixed doubles, Fletcher and Suthers lost their early lead to lose two sets to one (3-6, 6-1, 6-4) against Germany.

“It was great being up on the podium with both my doubles partners and a proud moment to see the Great Britain flag flying high,” said Fletcher.

“Deep down, getting silver has only made me even more hungry to go in search of gold next time.”

Fletcher quickly thanked his wife and coach, Catherine, in the aftermath of Saturday’s efforts.

He said: “Thanks to Catherine and sports therapist Andy Graham for their continuous support.”
