KYLE Bennett’s service with Swindon Town might not be over yet, with Richie Wellens confirming after Wednesday’s Leasing.com Trophy visit to Bristol Rovers that he may look to add the midfielder to his squad in January.

Rovers boss Graham Coughlan opted to start Bennett in the Gas’ one-goal win against a makeshift Town squad at a soggy Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night.

It was a rare start for the 29-year-old, who has come off the bench seven times for Rovers this season from his 13 appearances in all competitions.

The former Portsmouth man, who played with Wellens at Doncaster Rovers for two seasons during his four-year stint at the Keepmoat Stadium, remains of interest to Town’s 39-year-old boss.

However, he admitted to having no dialogue with Coughlan in recent weeks with regards to a potential move.

Wellens said: “Maybe (we’ll consider Bennett in January), I think he enjoyed his time with us because of the way we played – he fitted into our system and had a manager that understood him and knew how to get the best out of him.

“He is on the bench every week for Bristol Rovers and comes on every now and again.

“I have no idea if he is in the manager’s (Graham Coughlan) plans or not.

“There is a long time between now and January.

“We’ll assess it further when the time comes.”

Wellens has also been linked with a move for 20-year-old Huddersfield Town defender Rarmani Edmonds-Green.

The Sun newspaper last week published a report that suggested Town’s director of football Paul Jewell was keeping a close eye on the centre-half during his loan commitments with National League outfit Bromley.

Wellens attended Bromley’s FA Cup first round tie against Bristol Rovers on Sunday, but he denied any knowledge of Edmonds-Green when asked.

He said: “I’ve never heard of him, no disrespect.

“I’m not interested.”
