Chippenham Town have signed Cheltenham Town defender Grant Horton on loan until the end of the season.

The 18-year-old – who is a second-year scholar – recently made his professional debut for the Robins against Mansfield Town following a spell on loan at Southern League side Yate Town.

Manager Mark Collier has been struggling for bodies at the back after Will Richards broke his arm for the second time this season against Maidstone while Curtis McDonald had been forced to sit out against the same opposition due to a tight hamstring.

The former striker-turned centre-back will go straight into the squad for Saturday's game against Chelmsford City at Hardenhuish Park.

Speaking to Chippenham Town's official website, Collier said "Grant is highly rated at Cheltenham Town and they were very keen to see him playing at step two after he completed a very successful period at Yate Town.

"Both Gary (Horgan - assistant manager) and I have been given glowing references from trusted sources and we look forward to working with him"
