THERE was no pre-Christmas cheer for Devizes Town in the Toolstation League as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Radstock Town on Saturday in a weekend heavily affected by the weather.

Devizes, who have fallen to third from bottom in the Division One table, were the only Wiltshire side to fulfill their fixture as just four games across the league’s two divisions and one cup match were played to a finish as heavy rain took its toll on pitches across the region.

The Nursteed Road side were slow out of the blocks against Radstock and found themselves 2-0 in arrears at the half-time break.

Morgan Skipp broke the deadlock for the visitors before Morgan Marsh doubled the advantage to put the Miners in control.

There was no Devizes fightback in the second half and Radstock finally made the points safe five minutes from time when Rico Sobers grabbed their third goal of the game.

While Devizes have struggled for much of the campaign, Bradford Town have been absolutely flying and sit top of the Premier Division table.

They looked like adding another three points to their tally on Saturday, only to see their trip to Wellington abandoned midway through the second half when the Bobcats were 3-0 up.

Gary Higdon’s goal gave Bradford a narrow 1-0 lead at the break in Somerset, with the striker also missing the chance to double the advantage when his penalty was saved by the home keeper.

Charlie Walton made it 2-0 early in the second half before Higdon did get a second goal of the day – although those efforts eventually meant nothing as the referee called off the contest as playing conditions worsened in the continuing rainfall.

Posting on Twitter, Bradford confirmed the result will not stand and the match will have to be replayed.

Bradford were due to resume their promotion push on Boxing Day in a big Wiltshire derby at home to Westbury United.

Westbury were unaffected by the weekend weather as they had no game scheduled.

After their post-Christmas duel, Bradford travel to Keynsham Town on Saturday, while Westbury are at home to Plymouth Parkway.

Wiltshire bragging rights will also be on the line in Division One on Boxing Day as Calne Town host Devizes.

Second-in-the-table Calne’s trip to Almondsbury last Saturday was one of many to be postponed due to the weather, as was Warminster Town’s home game against Oldland Abbotonians.

Warminster and Corsham Town – who were without a game last Saturday – have no Boxing Day fixtures but face each other on Saturday at the latter’s Southbank Ground.

Both Calne and Devizes have free weekends following their post-Christmas duel.
