SWINDON Speedway confirmed the club has held positive discussions with Polish club Unia Leszno about potential friendlies to start the season ahead of their SGB Premiership fixture list being announced this morning.

Alun Rossiter’s Robins are hopeful of beginning their title defence with a home and away fixture against the Polish giants in March or April.

The good news surrounding a potential contest with Leszno follows the positive outcome surrounding the council’s decision to give the go ahead on a new stadium at the Abbey.

As well as the two-legged fixture, the Robins are also hopeful of practice sessions between the two teams - though there is no word so far on whether fans will be invited along to watch.

In a statement released on the club’s website, Swindon said: “We have a great relationship with Leszno, going back many years, and this is something we would love to happen.

“We know dates have been mentioned in the public domain, but it’s important to clarify final arrangements need to be made before we confirm the final details at our end.”

Meanwhile, fans can start setting plans to follow the team in motion as the club confirm their 2020 fixture list this morning (Thursday).

CFS Filtrations Robins co-promoter Lee Kilby revealed he has been working overtime to pull the full list together and is excited to share the outcome with Robins supporters.

He said: “It’s been a busy time working with all the clubs to secure the fixture list, but I can now confirm everything is in place and all the clubs will be circulated accordingly.

“We are on target for a Thursday morning announcement on our website, so fans can start looking ahead even more to the new season.”
