Worton romp to Semington success

Worton & Cheverell overcame the elements and opponents Semington to open up a 6 point gap over their rivals as the top of the Shoestrings-chargrill Chippenham Sunday League, Premier division courtesy of a convincing 6-1 romp at their Northbrook ground. Tom Slater, Jake Waters and Gary Campbell scored in the first half for Worton and although Rich Allum pulled a gaol back for Semington it was little more than a consolation as a second for Campbell restored the hosts 3 goal cushion before Ashley Huntley and Rob Drown netted late on to put the game to bed for the leaders.

In what was the classic game of two halves, Box Rovers showed their title credentials as they came from 2-0 down at the interval to beat Bromham 5-2. Jack Angel’s stunning 40 yard strike couple with Jamie Hall’s great finish put the visitors to Bromham 2-up. If the first half belong to Bromham, Box Rovers dominated the second period, Zac Hillier halved the deficit and Adam Mitchell restored parity before Adam Taylor completed the turnaround when he fired Box ahead. Ross Hall made it 4-2 before a second for Mitchell sealed their 5-2 success.

A 4-1 victory for Bath Road away at Faded FC was the third on the spin for Luke Jones sides who thanks to their recent upturn in form have moved well clear over the drop zone. After a goalless first half, Aiden Jackson gave Bath Road the lead, Harry Ryan made it 2-0 before Faded’s debutant Philip Davis halved the arrears. Any hopes of a Faded revival was short lived as a Jack Sanderson double wrapped up the points for Bath Road.

Lion & Fiddle close gap on leaders

With Division One pacesetters North Star Club without a fixture, title favourites Lion & Fiddle cut the Calne based side at the summit to 5 points following their 4-0 triumph away at Sporting Box. The Fiddlers who have 3 games in hand on the leaders led 3-0 at the break through goals from Tom Blackman, Leon Greenland and Aaron Seviour. Ryan Baggs netted the fourth that secured Andy Dyer’s side their eight win of the campaign to ensure they remain unbeaten in 9.

In what was a well fought game in very windy conditions at Leafy Lane, hosts Biddestone claimed a 1-0 win over Old Road. Biddestone who had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down in the first half, struck what proved to be the winner early in the second period when Louis Harris lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper from the left edge of the penalty area.

New Inn Wacker picked up the points from their fixture with local rivals FC Libby, after they were awarded the match due to Libby being unable to raise a team for the game.

Westbury Railway bounced back from last week’s 8-2 mauling at the hands of Lion & Fiddle with a 2-1 victory over The Foresters Arms for whom it was their first loss in 2020. In what were challenging conditions at Leighton Sports Ground the Railway men finally broke their guests resistance in the second period when John Williams netted from a Drew Adams assist. The hosts doubled their lead when Dan Waylen scored a brilliant own goal. Substitute, Nigel Hall pulled a goal back for the Foresters, but it proved to be just a consolation as Westbury held on to claim all 3 points.

Warriors edge out Ashton

Wednesday Warriors who couldn’t buy a win in the previous campaign, stuck with it and a 1-0 triumph over Steeple Ashton earned Stuart Green’s side their fourth Division Two victory this season. After a goalless first half it was Chris Clacee who was making his debut for Warriors who bagged the only goal of the game to earn the hosts a deserved win.

With the weather taking its toll on the division two fixtures, Lavis FC were the only side from the top 6 who saw any action, a 12-2 victory away at Misfits saw them consolidate second place. Bradley Edwards, Zack Manna, Jack Sterling, Ryan Parfitt and Jamie Hancock shared the first half goals for Lavis who led 5-1, Callum Lait was on target for Misfits. Both Zack Manna and Jamie Hancock scored a further 3 goals each in the second period to claim 4-timers. Jack Booth’s effort made up the dozen. Ben Thomas bagged the second Misfits goal.
