BROMHAM MAULED BY RAMPANT MELKSHAM

The weather may have caused more disruption to the fixture programme of the Shoestrings-chargrill Chippenham Sunday League with just two of it’s scheduled matches getting played. One of those sides who were grateful of their first run out since the end of January when they were beaten 4-2 by FC North Wiltshire was AFC Melksham who returned to action with a bang.

Mike Rogers team may have lost their previous Premier Division clash with Bromham 5-2, but Rogers’ side avenged that loss with a thumping 8-1 success at their rivals home ground. Rhys Talmash was Bromham’s chief tormenter as he bagged himself a 4-timer which included one from the penalty spot and a sublimed volleyed finish. James Dark scored twice, Jack Woolgrove and Owen Pearce, direct from a corner completed the rout.

Charles Street’s penalty gave Bromham their consolation.

With leaders Worton & Cheverell missing out on a league fixture, FC Lacock closed the gap to their title rivals to 6 points after they were awarded the points from their scheduled game away at FC North Wiltshire who were unable to raise a team.

RELEGATION BATTLE ENDS ALL SQUARE

The only match from Division One that beat the elements was at Sutton Benger where Kingfisher FC hosted fellow relegation battlers Sporting Box. Despite the visitors boasting a 2-0 advantage they had to settle for a share of the points as the fishermen thought back in the second period to claim a 2-2 draw.

Lee Grealish scored either time of half time to give their 2-0 lead. Will Stone halved the deficit for the hosts before Kieran Blake netted their equaliser.

NO CHANGE IN DIVISION TWO STANDINGS

Everything remains as it was at the start of play in Division Two as all of the scheduled fixtures were lost to waterlogged pitches.

WORTON REACH SUNDAY CUP SEMI-FINALS

Premier division leaders Worton & Cheverell finally booked their place in the semi-finals of this season’s Wiltshire Sunday Cup, the villagers who were 3-0 up away at Salisbury League side Halfway House Harriers when the original game at the start of February was abandoned due to the weather received a walkover when their opponents couldn’t raise a side for the trip to Northbrook.

Worton’s semi-final opponents are West Harnham who have already accounted for Chippenham league sides, FC Lacock, Lavis FC and the Lion & Fiddle so Pete Huntley’s side won’t be taking anything for granted when the pair meet next Sunday.
