HOOF HEADS OLD ROAD IN TO PARR FINAL

First division Old Road came from 3-2 down to defeat second division Pack Horse 4-3 after extra time to claim a WG Parr Trophy final place where they will face either Sutton Benger or New Inn Wacker in the Westernsport - sponsored competition.

Old Road trailed 3-2 at the break to Pack Horse who had taken the lead through Adam Gerrard. Seamus Mooney got Lavington back on level terms from the penalty spot and Frankie Vas put them 2-1 ahead before goals from Dan Williamson and a second for Gerrard regained the lead for Pack horse.

Frankie Vas popped up with the second half equaliser for Old Road that took the tie to extra time where after a goal less first half and with the game heading towards penalties, Louis Hoof conjured up a winner as with seconds on the clock he headed home a corner that took Old Road to their first ever cup final.

Old Road will have to wait to see who their opponents will be in the Westernsport Trophies sponsored WG Parr Trophy Final, the other semi-final between Division One stable-mates Sutton Benger and last terms beaten finalists New Inn Wacker was abandoned after 59 minutes with New Inn leading 2-1 following an injury to one of the New Inn players.

Matt Blackmore had given the Benger the lead against the run of play, Owen Thompson scored his first ever goal for New Inn to bring the scores level and Sean Horobin put New Inn 2-1 ahead at the interval only for the game to be called to a halt 14 minutes after the restart.

DEVIZES KEEP CUP DREAM ALIVE

At the third time of asking, and due to the efforts of Devizes United’s Oscar Webster, the long overdue AM Print & Copy sponsored Knockout Cup quarter-final tie between top flight Bath Road and second division hotshots FC Devizes United finally beat the elements.

With their pitch at Bowerhill being unplayable, Webster found a pitch in Enford, that could stage the tie and he was rewarded for his efforts as his young chargers ran out 9-3 victors against the top flight opponents who played the whole game with 10 players.

Charlie Strickland put in a standout performance, scoring 4 of the 9 goals, Kian Fulford netted twice with a goal each from Declan McStravick, Jordan Anning and Webster himself setting up a semi-final showdown with top flight FC Lacock.

Harry Ryan, Jack Sanderson from the penalty spot ant Aiden Jackson replied for Bath Road.

MELKSHAM SUFFER HEAVY LACOCK LOSS

With Shoestrings chargrill-sponsored Chippenham Sunday League Premier Division leaders Worton & Cheverell missing out on a league match, due to their Sunday Cup involvement, it gave FC Lacock the perfect opportunity to close the gap on their title rivals to just 3 points. Lacock duly obliged with a resounding 9-2 triumph over an injury ravaged AFC Melksham side who finished the game with 8 players.

Josh Bright top scored with a hat trick, Kieron Gleed and Aaron Masson struck 2 each, Mark Dolman and a first ever goal for Corey Harbour-Burgess made up Lacock’s 9. Jack Woolsgrove and James Dark replied for AFC Melksham.

Box Rovers who picked up maximum points from their game with Semington FC are still very much in the hunt to be crowned champions, a 4-1 victory means they closed the gap on the leaders who they meet in a fortnight’s time to just 3 points.

In what was evenly matched first half, Adam Taylor saw his opener for Box cancelled out by Sam Young’s wonderful curled effort which took the teams into half time at 1-apiece.

Semington were outplayed in the second period and goals from Zac Hillier, Darrin Moss from the penalty spot and Adam Shipman earned Box a deserved 3 points over the team who had beaten them 1-0 on the opening day of the season.

At the foot of the table, relegation threatened Faded and FC North Wiltshire did little to help their chances of survival as neither team were able to raise a team, meaning respective opponents Westbury Rangers and Bromham were awarded the match.

FISHERMEN END WINLESS RUN

A first win in 10 attempts and only a second of the season has given Kingfisher a huge boost in their chances of avoiding the drop from the Shoestrings chargrill-sponsored Chippenham Sunday League, Division One. At home to Westbury Railway who had beaten them 7-1 in the reverse fixture back in September, the Fishermen upset the formbook with a 3-1 success.

Kieran Blake gave Kingfisher the lead only for Steve Jackson to get the Railway men back on level terms. A Steve Morris own goal saw the hosts regain the lead before half time. Kingfisher sealed the points when Will Stone turned home a Josh Butler cross to make it 3-1.

In the other relegation battle, the points were shared at Vallens Terrace, Box as hosts Sporting Box and FC Libby thought out 1-1 draw.

Libby led at the break courtesy of a Tom Thomson goal, Sporting Box hit back in the second period through Zilwood Stead, whose first goal for Box ensured the game ended with honours even.

WORTON HAVE EYES ON THE PRIZE

Premier division leaders Worton & Cheverell managed to do what no other Chippenham League has done this season and that was to end the Wiltshire Sunday Cup hopes of top Salisbury League side West Harnham who prior to their semi-final showdown with Pete Huntley’s side had accounted for FC Lacock, Lavis FC and the Lion & Fiddle but Worton were obstacle too far and a 3-1 success for Huntley’s men means that for the first time since The Dursley Arms walloped AFC Gas 9-0, the league will be represented in the final.

Darren Lewis gave Worton the perfect start as he settle any nerves with an early goal. Gary Campbell doubled Worton’s advantage on 25 minutes.

West Harnham pulled a goal back early in the second period, but any thought they had of a comeback ended when Ashley Huntley rifled home a stunning 25 yard free kick to seal what was a deserved win for Worton who will play Swindon League side Penhill United at Melksham Town FC on 5th April.
