Midfielder Jordan Lyden has signed a two year deal with Swindon Town, the club said.

The midfielder joined the Robins last year after he was released by Aston Villa.

He has made 23 appearances for Town, scoring once for the side - a header against Northampton Town in February.

Lyden, 24, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to sign a two-year extension. This season has been great, being champions and getting promoted to League One and that just shows the direction the club is going.

"The gaffer has played a huge part in me staying too. He gave me the opportunity to play a lot of games in the last year.

“I can’t wait to get going next season. But the main thing is getting going with fans, whenever that may be, so they can see us kick on in League One, which I’m sure we will do.”

The Australian-born six footer began his career in England with Aston Villa, joining the Birmingham side in 2012. He made his professional debut in an FA Cup clash against Wycombe Wanderers in 2016.

His career with Villa was marred by injury. He was loaned to Oldham Athletic in the 2018-19 season before he was recalled by Villa in early 2019.

Since joining Swindon last summer he has scored once, a composed header that sent the ball spinning past Northampton stopper David Cornell in February. It was his first for Swindon and only the second of the 24-year-old’s professional career.

Lyden told the Adver at the time: “It was only my second professional goal and I was obviously delighted, but the main thing was the three points.

“I was delighted to get on the scoresheet and help the team out any way I could.

“Five minutes before the goal, I’d made a last-ditch tackle and that livened me up a bit.

“That helped me get up the other end and into the box – they equal each other out for me because I stopped a goal up one end before scoring up the other.”
