THE new grassroots football season will begin for teams in The Trowbridge Windows and Conservatories sponsored Trowbridge and District Football League this weekend and this season looks to be an exciting one with both divisions expected to be extremely competitive indeed.

In Division One Warminster United will be hosting last seasons leaders Marshfield. The visitors will be hoping to continue their excellent form from last season which saw them leading the pack before the season was voided due to the pandemic but can expect a tough opening match which will be played at the Land Warfare Centre in Warminster.

Melksham Town ‘A’ will be entertaining Division One newcomers KEW PR FC at the INFILED Arena. After an outstanding season last year KEW PR FC have been placed into the top division to replace Devizes Town Reserves who have left the league and will be looking to start well as they make their debut at this higher level. Melksham will be looking to improve on last season and can expect to make this a close encounter.

In another mouth-watering match, Wiltshire Junior Cup runners-up Three Daggers will be welcoming fellow title challengers Heytesbury to the new Wiltshire FA headquarters at Green Lane Devizes. This is expected to be a very tight encounter with both teams looking to get their campaigns off to winning starts.

Freshford United will be hoping for better fortunes this season after mixed results last year as they welcome Calne Town Reserves to their base at Abbey Lane. It will be a tough opening match for the hosts as these two teams last met just before lockdown with Calne Reserves in wonderful form running out 4 – 1 winners, extending their winning run to six straight matches.

The final match in The Trowbridge Windows and Conservatories sponsored Division One is at Little Marsh Playing Fields where Semington Magpies welcome neighbours Hilperton United. Both teams will be hoping for better fortunes this season and will see this match as an opportunity for three points and a good start so expect a close encounter here.

With eleven teams in the Trowbridge Windows and Conservatories sponsored Division One this season, Warminster Town Reserves will have to wait until next weekend, 10th October before they can resume playing when they will be entertaining Heytesbury at Weymouth Street.

In the Trowbridge Windows and Conservatories sponsored Division Two, Staverton United will be expecting to launch a strong title and promotion challenge but will be stepping into the unknown a little bit with an opening day match against league newcomers Potterne. With the new boys looking to make their mark, Staverton will have to be on their guard at The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Field, Bowerhill.

In what looks to be an exciting season in Division Two, Westbury United Reserves are expecting to push Staverton all the way for the title and promotion and will begin their challenge with a visit to Seend United who also will hoping to challenge this year. These two teams did not get to meet in the league last season due to the pandemic, but Westbury did run out 5 – 2 winners in the Knockout cup so Seend will be looking to avenge that defeat. The match will be played at Seend Lye Playing Fields.

At Woodmarsh, Trowbridge Town Reserves will be hosting Calne Eagles. The visitors are also expected to challenge for promotion this time around so will be looking for a good start but can expect a tough match with the hosts wanting to improve on their mid-table position last season and mount their own challenge.

After an encouraging first campaign last season, Dilton Marsh Wanderers will be hoping to push on this year and mount their own promotion push in the Trowbridge Windows and Conservatories sponsored Division Two. The Stiffs will be their hosts at St Marys, Steeple Ashton in their opening match and The Wanderers will be expecting to take all the points but will have to be on their guard as The Stiffs are always hard to beat at home and will be looking for an opening day victory of their own.

The remaining two teams in the Trowbridge Windows and Conservatories sponsored Division Two are Aces and the other newcomers to the league Bromham. These two teams will open their season next Saturday 10th October at The Jubilee Field, Bromham.

All the above matches will kick-off at 3pm on Saturday 3rd October and spectators will be welcome to watch in a socially distanced way around the pitch. Each club has an appointed Covid-19 officer present at the match and track and trace measures will be implemented so please come along to support grass roots football and watch a match in a safe way.
