CHIPPENHAM Town have been drawn away at fellow National League South side Ebbsfleet United in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.

Mike Cook’s men squeezed past Southern League Premier Division South outfit Poole Town on penalties at the weekend following a dramatic 2-2 draw at Hardenhuish Park.

The Bluebirds went two goals up thanks to goals from Brad Ash and Mark Childs before being pegged back late on and losing Ryan Case courtesy of a straight red card.

The National League South side held their nerve in the shootout though and have booked their place in the third qualifying round, which is scheduled to take place on October 13.

The Bluebirds took the lead in the 10th minute when Luke Russe’s cross was deflected to Ash who rolled a low shot home.

Two minutes later, Joe Hanks’ deflected shot looped beyond keeper Mark Childs to double the advantage.

The Dolphins pulled a goal back in the 21st minute when a corner ended with defender Will Spetch turning the ball home.

The game eventually settled down, with the next serious action coming 20 minutes from time as substitute Ryan Case received a straight red card for a mistimed tackle.

Ed Jones headed over for Chippenham as the 10 men tried to make the game safe, however, a foul in the penalty area seven minutes before the end saw Poole awarded a penalty which was dispatched by Tony Lee.

Chippenham almost snatched the game in added time after Ash’s fierce drive cannoned back off the inside of the post, substitute Ross Stearn’s follow up was blocked and Hanks’ shot was saved.

But no further goals were scored, and Chippenham were taken to spot-kicks by their lower-league opposition.

Poole’s Corby Moore hit the angle of post and bar with his side’s first penalty while all five Bluebirds - Hanks, Jones, Stearn, Russe and Ash - were successful.
