ROYAL Wootton Bassett Town booked their place in the FA Vase first round with a 3-1 second-qualifying round victory away at Western League Division One side, Portishead Town.

Tommy Ouldridge had initially opened the scoring for Bassett, only for the hosts to equalise 10 minutes later.

Debutant John Mills’ half-time introduction proved decisive though as he came on to win a penalty that Alan Griffin netted. Mills then scored one of his own to wrap up victory.

Bradford Town were the other Wiltshire side to book their spot in the main draw after a 2-0 win over near-neighbours, Odd Down.

Harvey Baker netted in the seventh minute before Ross Lye came on as a substitute to wrap up the game with 18 minutes to play.

There was no such luck for Corsham Town, however, with Kieran Baggs’ men losing 4-2 on penalties to Hamworthy United following a 1-1 draw in normal time.

In Hellenic League action, Baggs’ side later drew 0-0 away at Thornbury Town on Tuesday night and dropped to fifth as a result.

Meanwhile, Fairford Town lost an extraordinary game 5-4 away at Westfields on Saturday.

Jody Bevan’s side went 4-2 ahead thanks to goals from Jack Beardsell, Ross Langworthy, Robbie James, and George Peare.

However, a remarkable turnaround for Westfields saw the hosts score three times - twice in the final five minutes - to steal all three points.

Calne Town lost 4-1 at home to Malvern Town at the weekend despite a fifth-minute goal from Fabian Stanislas.

In midweek, Shrivenham beat Longlevens 2-0 on home soil thanks to a brace from Jonathan Peachey-Score.
