CHIPPENHAM recorded consecutive victories for the first time since late November following a 31-14 success at home to Beaconsfield on Saturday.

The Allington Fields club was rarely in danger on home turf and have pushed themselves to within four points of upcoming opponents Witney thanks to the bonus-point win.

Chippenham started strongly and duly took the lead within the first two minutes of the game. Ben Thyer crossed after brushing off a couple of attempted Beaconsfield tackles before Tom Douglas converted.

It wasn’t all one-way traffic, however, and soon Beaconsfield took advantage of the perfect conditions for running rugby by scoring an equalising try.

The hosts were playing some excellent, efficient rugby though and they went on to take the lead once again before extending that advantage prior to the break.

Using the power from the back row, Chippenham finished the first half with two more tries from Foti Faosiliva and Chris Day - Douglas added one conversion to leave the score at 19-7 heading into the interval.

The second half continued in the same vein for Chippenham with great pace from the backs causing problems for Beaconsfield.

Faosiliva burst through to score his second and secure a bonus point for the home team - that was converted by Douglas to make it 26-7.

With the bonus point in the bag, the match turned as Beaconsfield built pressure and Chippenham started to lose their discipline, at one point being down to 13 players.

Understandably, this caused problems, and even though the home side defence was impressive, Beaconsfield broke through to score and reduce the deficit to 26-14.

But once Chippenham returned to full strength, they finished strongly with a lovely team try that saw Charlie Parsons dive over in the corner to seal the result.

Elsewhere in South West One East, Trowbridge lost 24-12 away at Frome. There were no other games in that division as the rugby world paused to watch Six Nations matches.

In Southern Counties South, Corsham lost 58-0 away at Swindon College Old Boys as only one other game took place in that particular division.
