Swindon Cricket Club will be hosting their third big match of the summer as Gloucestershire face Hampshire in a T20 clash.
On June 23, the second 11s of Gloucestershire and Hampshire will be facing off at Swindon Cricket Club in another exciting match hosted in the town this summer, with Wiltshire having played Glamorgan and England having played India in an over-40s match.
With a 5 pm start and tickets free, this is another opportunity for cricket fans in Swindon to watch some high-level players in the town.
On top of the excellent sporting action, there will be a public bar and food vendor on site and a raffle taking place, which is in support of End Polio Now and Prospect Hospice.
The game will take place before England get underway in their second FIFA World Cup group match against Ghana, and that match will be shown on three screens at the cricket club, so nobody misses the action.
Having built up their credentials as a host for showpiece matches over the last few years, this is another example of Swindon Cricket Club being trusted to host big matches, having already hosted two this summer.
Club Chair Daniel Harris spoke of his pride that the club has managed to grow so much in this area, so they could bring exciting events to Swindon.
He said: “This is another really nice game for us to have. We have club connections and club contacts there, so it is thanks to that we can host this match.
“Jon Lewis, who was the England coach and played for England for a long time, was a career pro at Gloucestershire, and he is back there now in a management role, so our contact with him has been key, plus some help from Deacons.
“It is a feather in the cap for us, but it is easier for these big counties to come to us now, because they have seen us host big fixtures in the past.
“They are not stepping into the unknown with us and not being sure what will happen; they know that we are capable of hosting matches like this, and we have done a good job in the past.
“I would really like to see plenty of people come through the gate, because it is going to be a really good warm-up for the T20 cricket that is happening, and these teams will be properly in T20 mode.”
