Midfielder Jack Thomson has become Swindon Town's ninth signing of the summer as he has joined from Kilmarnock on a two-year deal.
Ian Holloway has been looking to find a replacement for Gavin Kilkenny in his team ahead of the end of the transfer window, and has now secured his man.
Joining on a permanent deal from Kilmarnock, the 26-year-old is a natural holding midfielder, and will provide the kind of depth and experience that Holloway wanted to add to his squad.
Thomson began his career at Rangers and has plenty of experience in the Scottish leagues, including making more than 100 appearances for Queen's Park.
He now heads down to Swindon to add to their strong options in the middle of the park, and provide a natural base to their midfield.
Town will be waiting on international clearance to see whether he will be able to feature against Oldham Athletic this weekend, and that took a week to come through for Kaelan Majekodunmi.
Speaking upon his move to The Nigel Eady County Ground, he said: “I’m feeling really good, I just can’t wait to get going really.
“I spoke to the Manager, I spoke to some of the boys that have played in England before, and everyone had some really good things to say, so I just thought it would be the right move for me in my career.
“It was a big draw to coming down to England in regard to the amount of games. I think the more games you play, the more chance you have to develop and get better because that’s ultimately why we play football.”
Thomson is a player who is comfortable on the ball, but is best deployed as a midfield destroyer, and loves to get stuck in without the ball, something that Holloway has been emphasising this summer.
At Kilmarnock last season, he ranked in the top ten per cent of all Scottish Premiership midfielders for defensive actions, tackles, and recoveries per 90 minutes.
Between Thomson, Anthony Munda, Ollie Clarke, Matty Virtue, and James Debayo, Swindon have a number of defensively sound midfielders who fit perfectly into the pressing ethos that Holloway has looked to cultivate.
Swindon will still be hoping to get a new attacker in ahead of Tuesday's deadline, with the focus presently on not having to be frantically working on the day of the Port Vale game.
Kain Adom and Danny Butterworth remain in contention for that signing, but Swindon are still evaluating their options to find the right fit.
Speaking about new signings, Holloway said: "I have to try and replace Gav Kilkenny. I mean, come on, I wanted to add to Gav Kilkenny. I have to try and replace him. I have to try and replace Fletcher Holman.
"They were a massive part of my plan for where we're going, a massive part of how good we're going to be. So talk about struggle. I believe we're doing it."
