Stephanie Millward admits she is “feeling good and feeling fast’’ as she prepares to take on the world in Brazil.

The Corsham swimmer, winner of five gold medals in the European Paraylympic Championships in Iceland last month, jetted out to Rio de Janeiro with the 19-strong British team on Tuesday for the IPC World Short Course Championships.

Ahead of her is an eight-event programme that promises to test her fitness to the limit, when the seven-day championships get underway on Sunday.

But the 26-year-old, who will again room with Beijing Paralympics heroine and Swansea training partner Ellie Simmonds in Brazil, believes she can cope.

“I did six events in Iceland and I’ve been pretty well tapered for this event, so I think I’ll be fine,’’ she told the Gazette & Herald.

“I won three golds at the (DSE) Nationwide Swimming Championships in Sheffield last weekend, so it feels like I’m in good shape.’’ Millward will do battle in the five events she won in Iceland – the 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke, 400m freestyle, 4x100m medley and the 34-point 4x100m freestyle relay – plus the 100m free and both the 100m and 200m individual medley.

“Obviously the best in the world are there so the standard is much higher,’’ she added.

“Getting some personal bests would be my main aim, winning a medal would be something extra.’’
