THE second half of the season got underway with just two games postponed in the Premier Division, AFC Chippenham Youth’s game against Devizes Town Reserves and Vale Of Pewsey’s match against Blyskawica the victims, writes RAY BURROUGHS.

Calne Town caught Purton Redhouse flatfooted with a lively first half performance, scoring three times in the first 45 minutes.

Tom Slater hit a 20 yarder into the top corner after 15 minutes with Mark Sharratt scoring from the edge of the box 10 minutes later.

On the stroke of half time, Steve Healy headed a free kick into the net to put the game beyond doubt.

League leaders Corsham Town Reserves were a goal down at home to Bradford after five minutes but fought back to run out winners 6-3.

Simon Grey hit a hat-trick for the home side with further goals from Gary Blackford, Matt Jenkins and an own goal.

Steve Gerrish (2) and Steve Roddy on target for the visitors who made sure the leaders did not have it all their own way.

AFC Amesbury did well to beat visitors Chalke Valley 3-0 to avenge an earlier cup defeat, Dan Pierce Fabian Morrison and James Kenny on target.

Shrewton made a good start to the new year with a 7-2 away win at Wilton, Carl Duncombe and Dale Gower the scorers for the home side.

New College took their good run into the second half of the season when they demolished visitors Marlborough Town 7-2.

Nathan Blackford got the home side off to a good start on 15 minutes with a fierce free kick into the top corner of the net.

College continued to dominate proceedings adding four more goals before the break Josh Skeates netting twice with Ben Wells and Ryan Stanners adding their names to the scoresheet.

The visitors showed a big improvement after the break, with Steve Dean and Nathan Good reducing the arrears, before Blackford and Todd Hathaway added further goals for last seasons champions.

In an all-Swindon clash Moredon Cheney and Southbrook shared the points in a 1-1 draw with Cheney’s 16-year old-striker Chris Jones giving his side the lead after just three minutes.

The visitors fought back but were denied getting back on level terms until Craig Kent equalised five minutes into the second half.

Southbrook then had the edge for the majority of the half with the home keeper making several good stops although the hosts always looked dangerous on the break.

Moredon boss Lee Ashby thought that a draw was a fair result.

He said: “We were short of a couple of our regulars but, saying that, the lads that came in did very well but it was a pity we couldn’t have snatched a second goal in the first half.

Wroughton had the better of the first half against AFC NPower but failed to make it count and the visitors made them pay after the interval gaining a 3-0 victory thanks to two goals from Tony Dearing with Steve Shaw adding a third.

In Division One, Marshfield were always in charge against Rodbourne Cheney Reserves, running out 5-2 winners while Lower Stratton and Old Town turned in an entertaining game with visitors Old Town getting the upper hand 5-3.

Swindon Irons were successful at Marlborough beating the home side 3-0 while Intel lost 3-1 at home to visitors Ramsbury.
