WILTSHIRE’S selectors have chosen an interesting side for the opening Liberty Trophy match at North Wilts Indoor Bowls Club on Saturday (November 12, 10am), writes DAVE EATON.

They appear to have opted to keep club players together, with one exception, for their first round inter-county championship match against Worcestershire.

The selectors have picked two complete rinks from Westlecot, one complete rink from North Wilts (Chippenham), Christie Miller (Melksham) and Five Rivers (Salisbury) while the sixth and last rink contains three North Wilts players and one from Five Rivers.

On the outdoor scene players from around the county meet regularly in county league matches and national championship and competitions but indoors the structure is totally different.

The four named indoor clubs above play their national competitions in three separate areas - Westlecot (Area 10), Five Rivers (Area 27) while only both North Wilts and Christie Miller compete in Area 30.

Should Wiltshire be successful they would meet Somerset or Devon in the last 16 at the end of the month.

TEAM

Rink 1: Kevin Embling, Paul Stokes, Hedley Bowen and Neil Smith (all Westlecot IBC).

Rink 2: Michael Titcombe Jnr, Josh Cottle, Tom Walkley and Dave Snell (all Westlecot).

Rink 3: Jordan Moody, David Leighfield, Tom Warner and Nick Revell (all Five Rivers).

Rink 4: Dave Godwin, Nigel Price, Paul Macdonald and Andy Moore (all Christie Miller).

Rink 5: Steve Snook (North Wilts), Richard Hindley (FR), Keith Hutchens and Nick Grenfell (both NW).

Rink 6: Bob George, John Lucas, Wayne Snook and Billy McCay (all North Wilts).

Reserves: John Thomas and Paul Kistle (both Westlecot), Chris Easton (Christie Miller).

WAYNE Snook is through to the Area 30 final in the National Champion of Champions competition again.

The 22-year-old North Wilts indoor bowler has deservedly been awarded an England junior international trial (U25s) later this month in recognition of his fine achievements on the indoor greens over the past four seasons.

Snook, who reached the national finals and last 16 in the champion of champions competition last season, has qualified for the Area 30 final for the second season in a row.

He beat Mark Woods (Clevedon) 21-17, who he beat in the area final last year, and then followed it up with 21-17 semi-final victory over the wily seasoned campaigner Andy Moore (Christie Miller, Melksham).

Snook now meets his Wiltshire outdoor county colleague Graham Shadwell, who plays his indoor bowls at Clarrie Dunbar (Frome, Somerset). It is a repeat of last season’s area semi-final which Snook won in style 21-17 despite trailing the England international 11-7 and then 17-11 before reeling off 10 shots in a row to win.
