MELKSHAM duo Brad Scott and Nick Tuckett clinched medals at the NAGA European Grappling Championships in Paris.

The pair, who train at the town’s DragonsLair MMA club picked up two bronze and a silver medal between them.

For Tuckett, a newcomer to the sport, it followed his gold medal at the No Gi British Open Championship in Birmingham last month.

“It was a late decision to even compete in the Championships and I certainly wasn’t expecting a medal,’’ he said after picking up a bronze.

“I was only going to get some experience so it was a dream result.”

Scott, who returned to the sport in July after a year out with a broken hand, picked up a silver and a bronze and said: “I was obviously really happy with my medal wins, but a bit shocked because I’m not a grappler.

“But it’s all about getting experience and adding new skills to your game”

The duo have further fight dates coming up, with Tuckett competing on November 20 and 26 at Exeter and Bridgwater respectively, while Scott has a fight planned for next month.

Both are also hoping to go to Lisbon for the European Jiu-Jitsu Championships in January.

“If I could get a medal then that would be a good performance,’’ added Scott.

“ I’m hoping I can get down to my fighting weight and compete in my proper division for once. Recently I’ve been going up against guys much bigger than me so to get a medal in my category is all I can ask for.”

The pair are sponsored by Gompels Healthcare Ltd.
