RICHARD Stevens' Division Three champions Lamb FC will hope to write their names into the Trowbridge & District League's record books at the weekend when they take on Salisbury League side Stockton & Codford at Melksham Town FC.

They will be bidding to become one of a few if not the first team from outside of Division One to lift the Wiltshire Junior Cup.

Trowbridge-based Lamb, for so long on of the league’s the whipping boys, have been a revelation this season and it they can lift the Junior Cup it would put the icing of what has already been a productive campaign for Stevens' young chargers.

Lamb started their cup run with a bye they then received a walkover in the third round when scheduled opponents Byrons Wanderers were unable to raise a team.

Next up for the Lamb was a trip to Old Town United who they beat 3-0 thanks to goals from Lee Frisby, Orrie Galvin and Richard Stevens.

Their quarter-final tie saw them travel to Redlynch & Woodfalls United, who won the cup back in 2007 and 2009 and were beaten finalists in 2010.

Lamb, who were under the cosh for most of the game rode their luck as they came away with a 2-1 win, Bradley King-Taylor scoring both goals.

The semi-final paired them will fellow Trowbridge league outfit Seen United which ensured the league would be guaranteed a finalist for the second successive campaign.

Lamb shocked their first division opponents by winning 3-2, Kieran Fereday and Sam Stevens' double taking them to the final.

Stockton & Codford's road to The Conigre was probably a little harder.

They came out on top of a seven goal thriller away at Fratello’s winning 4-3.

They were on the road again in the third round where they beat Ashton Keynes 2-0.

The quarter-final draw was kind to them as they hosted Queenfield (Saturday) who they beat 3-1.

Their biggest result came in the semi-finals when they were the underdogs against Wiltshire first division champions Box Rovers who they beat 2-1.

Stockton & Codford will start the game as favourites but if the Lamb can recapture some of their early and mid-season form that saw them put together a 16-match winless run, they could cause an upset and follow in the footsteps of last season’s winners The Deverills whose chances against FC Sanford were also dismissed before they turned the formbook on its head to claim a memorable victory.

The match kicks-off at 2.30pm and with most of the League’s fixtures completed it is hoped that a healthy crowd will be at the Conigre to cheer the Lamb to victory.
