SPENCER Moulton continued their centenary celebrations with a special match against a Bowls England men’s representative team led by the 2012 president Stuart Lake (Northamptonshire), writes DAVE EATON .

The Bowls England side contained players who had travelled from as far a field as Lincolnshire, Sussex and Cornwall as well as six other counties.

Unlike the previous day when Chippenham Town’s 100th anniversary game against BE had to be abandoned during play owing to a cloud burst, Spencer Moulton were blessed with a wonderful sunny day for their special match on their green at Bradford on Avon.

The game was a close affair throughout with rink honours being shared at 3-3 but Bowls England just edged home by the narrow margin of eight shots winning 118-110.

In the battle of the presidents Moulton’s Roger Green came out on top on rink four against Stuart Lake winning 24-17.

But Green’s rink were pipped for top honours by Tony Keating who led his home quartet to a ten shots success.

“It was a great day and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves,” said Spencer Moulton president Green.

“And we had the bonus of the weather which was extremely kind to us and really made the day.”

In his speech Bowls England president Stuart Lake congratulated Spencer Moulton on reaching their 100th anniversary.

He also congratulated Moulton players Debbie and Graham Shadwell on winning the mixed pairs national title at Worthing as well as the other club members who had represented Spencer Moulton at Worthing in the Middleton Cup, two wood singles and fours championship events.
