ANTHONY Perenise plans to mark his 100th appearance in a Bath shirt with a win against London Irish at the Rec on Saturday (4pm).

The Samoan international initially joined Bath in 2011 before linking up with Bristol on a three-year deal between 2014 and 2017.

The experienced prop made a return to the Rec at the start of this season - and although results haven’t gone his way, with Bath eighth in the Aviva Premiership table, Perenise admits he’s enjoyed his time at the club.

He said: “It’s a big achievement for me and a big milestone. I have great memories of playing for Bath, my best being when I ran 40 metres after collecting a loose ball at Northampton to score a try.

“I remember still puffing a few minutes after scoring that try. We ended up winning that game, it was a good day.”

Todd Blackadder’s men enter Saturday’s season finale in good spirits after defeating rivals Gloucester 43-20 at Kingsholm last Saturday.

While the play-offs are now out of reach, Perenise said the club wants to make their fans proud following a turbulent season.

The 35-year-old said: “Derby games are always important. For us, it was a chance to get a good win for the club, ourselves and the fans.

“This year hasn’t gone the way we would’ve wanted it to, but we’re playing for each other now and we’ve talked about needing to work hard.

“We can enjoy ourselves this weekend, I think that will help our game.”

While Irish have already been relegated to the Championship, Perenise admitted Bath cannot take their opponents lightly.

“They’ve got nothing to lose going into this game, they’ll throw everything at us and we have to do our best,” he said.

“It would be nice to get a win for the fans. They’ve been behind us through some frustrating times when we haven’t got the result we wanted.

“If we can get a good win to end the season on a high and put a few smiles on some faces that will be nice.”

Bath hooker Nathan Charles has left the club to join Super Rugby outfit Melbourne Rebels, while fly-half Rory Jennings will join London Scottish at the end of the season.
