WROUGHTON closed to within two points of Premier Division leaders Cricklade Town by lowering the colours of the pacesetters at the Weir Field on Saturday.

The home side, who started the day in fourth place, jumped into second spot ahead of Melksham Town Reserves and Kintbury Rangers, who were both in cup action, courtesy of a 4-2 triumph.

New signing Dave Coleman bagged a brace for the victors, with top scorer Shane Hibbert and Tyler Wilkinson also netting, while Devan Bryan’s 18th of the season and Reece Gilliver replied.

Shrewton United went fifth but only after a see-saw battle with bottom side Bremhill FC.

Having opened the scoring, Shrewton were left stunned as strikes from Zak Mitchell, Alex Pippard and George Lance put Bremhill into the ascendancy.

But led by top scorer Dan Burton, who struck twice, Shrewton secured the points as efforts from Josh Somerton and Jesse Walters helped see them home.

Seventh-placed Purton edged out Pewsey Vale Development 2-1, George Drewitt scoring for Purton but later being sent off. A goal from Scott Walduck decided the contest in the home side’s favour.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development continued their good form at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground with a 2-1 comeback win against Devizes Town Reserves.

Rich Clark and Joe Miller netted for Bassett, who have won five of their six home contests.

Marlborough Town won 1-0 at Malmesbury Victoria Development, while it was goalless between Trowbridge Town and Ludgershall Sports.

In the preliminary round of the Fountain Trophies Senior Cup, Melksham Town Reserves won 2-0 at Corsham Town Reserves, Jake Sainsbury and Zach Hillier netting to earn a first-round tie against Ludgershall Sports.

Kintbury Rangers reached round two with a 9-0 win at Bassett Bulldogs.
