CONSISTENCY at both ends of the pitch have been the secret to Melksham Town’s recent success, according to manager Kieran Baggs.

After a mixed set of results through September, which saw them win just once and claim a total of seven points out of a possible 18 on offer, Baggs has seen a turnaround in form for his side as they have won all of their October fixtures, without conceding a goal.

Melksham rounded off a perfect month in the Toolstation League with a routine 2-0 Premier Division win away to Shepton Mallet on Saturday, courtesy of goals from Joe Stradling and Gary Higdon.

Baggs was quick to praise both his defenders and strikers after the win and says the club are going in the right direction at the moment.

“I don’t think we were troubled too much at the weekend and we limited them to half-chances again,” he said.

“The back five, have been absolutely superb in the last month, we haven’t conceded a goal and it has been really refreshing.

“You need to praise your back four and the keeper as well as the goal scorers, they deserve a lot of credit for how they have played over the last month.

“Gary Higdon has had offers to play at a higher level in the Southern League, but he’s decided to stay with us again. His attitude, application and desire is fantastic.

“He doesn’t just score goals against the small teams, he also scores them against the big teams as well, so he has been superb. To have 17 goals already is an absolute credit to himself.”

Baggs will be hoping his troops can carry that form through to November when they tackle Clevedon Town at Oakfields this weekend.

“Clevedon will be a really tough game again, as long as the guys don’t get complacent, turn up and make sure the hard work comes first we should be okay,” he added.

“I don’t think we can look at the league table because Clevedon are underperforming with the budget that they have got.

"They’ve got Southern League experience which could win any game, so we will need to be at our best.”

Dan Demkiv is doubtful with a groin injury, while Mike Perrott is set to return from suspension.
