TROWBRIDGE head coach Dan Jeffries says his side are in with a shot at the Southern Counties title after their 50-7 win over Swindon College Old Boys.

Not only did his current side put in a performance, but his former side Corsham also did Jeffries a favour in their game with Sherborne.

Corsham’s win, combined with Trowbridge’s means that the latter are now just three points behind the league leaders Marlborough and Sherborne in the league table, with 56 from 14 games.

Max Day, Tom Weaver, Ashley Chalk and Lewis Jordan all added their names to the scoresheet in the emphatic home victory.

As a result of the victory, the Trowbridge chief says he and a players have received a boost from the outcome of this weekend.

“It was a great performance from the players, and after the game I got a messaged from someone at my old club Corsham, telling me the result and saying I owed them a beer for it,” said the Trowbridge boss.

“We are right in there now, it was a great performance and it has reinvigorated us a little bit because before we were looking at a play-off spot.

“But now, with Marlborough still to play we are right in there and competing for the title, before it was a little bit out of our hands.”

While Jeffries admits his club are in the mix for the league crown, he also reiterated the importance of taking the rest of the season as it comes.

Shai Bonnick is back in contention for this weekend’s away trip to Walcot, after he recovered from a head injury sustained in their 30-22 win at Sherborne two weeks ago.

This Saturday’s hosts are currently 10th in the league, but Jeffries is weary of the threat posed by their hosts, after being stung by them last year.

“We have to make sure we still take it at one game at a time, we’ve got Walcott this weekend who are struggling a little bit,” he added.

“We will have Shai Bonnick back from his head injury which will be a boost, especially for the Marlborough game in two weeks’ time.

“Walcot were one of the three teams who beat us last season and some points would really turn their season around, they have the ability to upset us.”
