TROWBRIDGE boss Dan Jeffries believes it’s important for his men to be aware of their capabilities ahead of next season’s South West One campaign.

Jeffries watched his side record a confidence-boosting 47-12 win at home to North Dorset on Saturday, meaning Trowbridge won the Southern Counties South by a comfortable 13 points.

The result also meant Trowbridge defeated every side in the division this season after Dorset inflicted a pair of defeats on Jeffries’ men at the start of the campaign and the coach was delighted to see his side mature as the season went on.

He said: “North Dorset beat us twice at the start of the season, they were our first two games of the season.

“Although we had the league won, it was about putting the wrongs right going into next year.

“We got the job done, which is all we can ask for.

“It was 21-12 at half-time, they definitely had the ability to score and they made things difficult for us.

“The fact we stretched our lead is a sign of our maturity, professionalism and ability to control what we were doing better.

“We had a similar situation at North Dorset in the second game we played against them and imploded a little bit under the pressure they put us under.

“This time we responded to it.

“It’s important for the boys to be aware that we’ve beat every team and for them to feel like a strong team.

“South West One is where our squad should sit.”

Meanwhile preparations for next season are already underway at Trowbridge as Jeffries hopes to land the signature of several players in the next week.

There’s also the possibility of the club adding to its coaching staff.

But having strength in depth is key for Jeffries if his side are to perform consistently in South West One.

“Planning is well underway,” said Jeffries.

“I’ve got four meetings with different players this week.

“It’s possible we’ll have some additions in place to the coaching structure too.

“We’ve had a huge amount of interest and there are a few guys on my radar that would boost our squad for next season.

“We’ve got 20 players that are comfortably South West One (standard).

“Bolstering the squad is important in case we run into injuries or somebody moving away.

“We are expecting to keep the squad largely together.

“Increasing healthy competition will help the team as we move forward and try to develop what we’re trying to do.

“This season we had to ask players to play when they carried a small knock.

“Going into tougher games next season we would like to have that squad depth so we can rotate the team.”
