FOOTBALL: Cup romp takes Pewsey through to last eight

PEWSEY Vale romped into the quarter finals of the Wiltshire Senior Cup after administering an 8-1 thrashing to Swindon's Hellenic League side New College last night.

Vale comfortably booked a last-eight clash with Toolstation League First Division high flyers Bradford Town as two goals from Jack Hopper gave them the half-time advantage.

A further Hopper goal extended the Sydenhams League Division One side's lead beforeNew College pulled one back through Christy Millar.

Further goals from Hopper, a Michael Martin brace, Ryan Bragg and Tom Ritchie wrapped up Vale's thumping win.

In the Hellenic League Premier Division, Wootton Bassett Town scored two late goals to rescue a 2-2 draw from their home clash with Highmoor Ibis.

Lee Stevens struck in the 77th minute before Levi Cox made it 2-2 with just seven minutes remaining as Highmoor, winners of five straight matches before their visit to the Corinium Stadium, blew what appeared to be a comfortable advantage.

Despite playing the majority of the game with 10 men after Jordan Brown’s red card, Highmoor appeared set to take the points after Calum Gallimore and Mitchell Parker had given them a two-goal advantage.

Bassett improved in the second period and defender Stevens dragged them back into it before Cox completed the comeback.
