MS Stroud in her letter last week ‘Army not above the law’ should be reassured that the military activities on the Plain are closely monitored and any damage to SSIs is investigated and punished.
The Army is the only reason we have such a large area of unspoilt countryside on our doorstep. They look after it very well, the evidence being the wide range of flora and animals resident on the Plain.
Yes, it’s noisy at times but unlike ‘Dads’ Army’ our soldiers use real guns and artillery for training and we knew that when we moved here.
Better that than a motorway with a constant low-level hum.
Incidentally, our cats (terrified of fireworks) barely open an eye when the AS90 gun fires, even though the house trembles and our hearts beat a little faster.
