IT WAS nice to see in the local press that Baroness Jane Scott has worked tirelessly on this year’s budget to fairly allocate what little money she has.
The £50,000 allocated to Visit Wiltshire seems to be a waste when the county’s roadsides are covered in litter and laybys by fly-tipping.
This money could be better spent on educating children in schools about litter and a campaign across the county raising awareness of this problem.
The council could liaise with various bodies such as the police and media in catching fly-tippers and fining them accordingly.
The Probation Service could get those on community service orders out picking litter from the roadsides. The council, through parishes, organises volunteers to take responsibility for their locality. This was done last year for the Queen.
Why not do it permanently for ourselves?
This way we can get our county we love so much clean and tidy before inviting visitors.
