THERE are often reports of ambulances not being available to take patients to hospital, despite the valiant efforts of their crews who do an excellent job in what are often difficult circumstances.
I was therefore astonished to see that in the case of the shoplifter who killed himself by falling on stolen bottles that two air ambulances stood by at a nearby sports field, and two road ambulances were in attendance.
As there was only one possible casualty, this seems a case of unnecessary deployment of resources. This seems to be a disease affecting all the emergency services. I have seen reports of relatively minor road incidents and the site is swarming with police cars.
I should think that one vehicle is more than sufficient, with the option of calling for back-up if necessary.
