Staff and volunteers at Blue Cross charity shops in Wiltshire are preparing to get baking in time for the pet charity’s annual tea party.

Local animal lovers are invited to ‘paws’ for tea and join in the fun at the Trowbridge shop in Fore Street on Friday, May 10, and at the Warminster shop on Saturday, May 11, at 49 Market Place, from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Visitors to the shops will be able to pick up some tea-licious homemade cakes and treats, as well as browsing the rails for a bargain.

The Warminster shop will also have a teddy bears’ picnic themed window, with teddies enjoying tea from cups and teapots which are also available for sale.

All money raised will go towards the care of the thousands of homeless and poorly pets looked after at the charity’s rehoming centres and hospitals every year.

Melanie Carter, Blue Cross shop manager in Trowbridge, said: “Everybody loves a slice of cake to go with their cuppa, so this is a great way to help animals in need.

“Every cupcake and flapjack we sell will mean Blue Cross is able to help even more pets have healthy, happy lives. And, of course, you might also be able to pick up a bargain in the shop; perhaps some lovely vintage tea cups or a recipe book for a party of your own.”

Last year, Blue Cross found new homes for over 8,000 pets and treated over 30,000 poorly animals, but there are still many more in need of help.

With no Government funding, Blue Cross shops are a vital source of income for the charity and donations of quality clothes, books and household items are welcome.

This year’s Blue Cross tea party is being supported by a host of celebrities, including Arlene Phillips, Made in Chelsea’s Cheska Hull and much-loved actresses Pam Ferris and Olivia Colman, who have all designed teapots to be auctioned online to raise funds for Blue Cross.
