WESTBURY woman Kate Hedges is taking part in the Walk for Wards charity event for the Salisbury Hospital Stars Appeal on June 23, to raise money for the nurses that care for her dad.

Mrs Hedges’ dad, Jim Cooper, was admitted last September as an emergency to Salisbury District Hospital and within two days was diagnosed as terminally ill with cancer.

The 40-year-old, who works as a teaching assistant at New Close Primary School, Warminster, decided to take part in the walk to thank staff working in the Pembroke Unit for their support.

The event, which takes place at Wilton House, near Salisbury, will see thousands take part in either a 10k or 3k walk for Salisbury District Hospital’s charity.

Mrs Hedges, of Bridge Court, Westbury, said: “My dad has received all of his palliative care in Pembroke Unit and all staff have given him the utmost care.
“The nurses welcomed him with a big smile and always joked and laughed with dad. They know everyone by their first name and he’s been treated with kindness, understanding and dignity.

“Dad has such admiration for all of them. Not only were they there for him, but always willing to give advice and support to the whole family.”
