Westbury Swimming Pool will finally re-open on Monday, with free sessions offered on June 15 and 16 to thank swimmers for their patience during the maintenance works.

The pool was originally expected to close for three to four weeks from March 4, so repairs could be carried out by contractors after the new pool lining failed.

It has been closed ever since, after tests on the blisters in the lining were inconclusive, with the council in a stalemate with the contractors over responsibility for remedial work.

Wiltshire Council appointed a new contractor to carry out repairs, with the full cost of the work needed to be sought from the original contractors.

Jonathon Seed, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for leisure, said: “Westbury Swimming Pool is an important part of the local community and we are delighted to announce the re-opening and the free swimming weekend.

"I’m sure the local community will come out and support this historic pool as they have always done.”

Keith Evans, contract manager for DC Leisure, said: “We are pleased to be working in partnership with Wiltshire Council to manage this much-valued, local resource.

“We are ready to welcome back former pool users and look forward to meeting new members when the doors open next week.”

Wiltshire Council, in partnership with DC Leisure which manages the facility on the council’s behalf, will be offering the free swimming sessions for all members of the community.

The free sessions will be on:
