Nine-year-old fundraiser Misha Jensen has been given the role of ambassador for an Ethiopian charity in recognition of his efforts.

Misha, of Middle Rank, Bradford on Avon, walked 188 miles along Offa’s Dyke with his mother Sasha, raising £3,000 for Link Ethiopia, which supports education in the east African country.

The money raised will go towards the upkeep of Chihra Primary School and will support a donkey-hauled library for the school for a year.

Misha, who walked three days on and one day off during the hottest July since 2006, said: “I was able to cope with the heat, except for a couple of days where there was no shade. I carried and drank two litres of water a day which helped.

“Being an ambassador means being a representative and going places. I’m very proud, because I’ll be an ambassador for this whole year which will probably be recorded in the charity’s history.”

Misha, who is homeschooled, studied the ancient world and Anglo Saxon Britain this year, so the walk along the Anglo Saxon monument on the border of England and Wales was an extended lesson for him.

Mrs Jensen, 44, said: “We were doing it as a history project. He is very determined and driven and I am so proud of him.

“It has been an amazing journey for both of us and was really good bonding time. I was surprised at how few people and towns we came across so it was isolating, but peaceful and simple.”

Chihra Primary School has 414 pupils but no running water or toilet facilities and Misha and his mum hope to visit next year to see how their money is being used.

Misha added: “I plan to do more fundraising and it would be for the same school until it is better, because it needs a lot of help.”
