A man arrested after an incident which led to Trowbridge residents being evacuated from their homes on Monday night was released on bail yesterday evening.

Police activity at a flat in Bond Street, Trowbridge continued throughout yesterday after a small number of residents were evacuated from the area on Monday evening.

After a fire in a bedsit in a block of flats on the corner of Bond Street and Wesley Road shortly after 5pm, concerns were raised around materials found inside one of the flats and police officers were called.

After a cordon was set up and a number of neighbouring premises evacuated, bomb disposal experts attended the scene in order to advise police on any potential public safety concerns.

After further investigations, residents were allowed to return to their homes around 9pm.

A 27-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and possession of explosive materials and has now been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The materials found have now been removed, but further house-to-house enquiries will continue in the coming days.
