Carers and organisations going that extra mile for their community were recognised at the fourth annual Wiltshire Adult Social Care Awards.

Wiltshire Council launched the awards to recognise outstanding contributions by carers.

This year’s celebration took place on September 17, at County Hall in Trowbridge.

There were 12 categories, from outstanding contribution and excellent customer care to making a difference and dignity.

Carewatch North West Wilts, in Trowbridge, was honoured as a learning and development provider and in the care employer award.

Care manager Jessica Walder said: “We work really hard on every aspect of our care and we aim to provide people in the community with quality care in their homes, rather than them needing to go into a care home.”

Another winner was Homes Caring for Autism, in the excellence in customer service category, for providing high levels of care and community integration for people with autism.

Manager Jim Nicholls said: “We were very proud and we have done a lot of hard work to get here. To win was fantastic and it was a big boost for everyone who has worked so hard.”

Runners-up included Helen Mead, of Forget Me Not Care in Westbury, in the excellence in customer service award, and Melksham’s Somerset Care at Home team in the best recruitment initiative award.

Mary Grist, 86, was joint winner of the outstanding contribution to social care award, with Leslie Williams of the Old Vicarage, Chippenham.

Mrs Grist, of The Moorlands, Devizes, who has spent 35 years volunteering at Southfield care home in Victoria Road, said: “I love being with people and helping people.”
