Melksham-based manufacturing firm Avon Rubber PLC has seen its revenue increase by 17 per cent in the 12 months leading to September 30.

The firm, which produces rubber items for the defence and dairy industries, released its preliminary results on Wednesday.

These showed another successful year for the international firm, who’s headquarters are based to the south of the town.

Operating profit rose by 22 per cent to £14.2m, with 75 per cent of the group’s revenue coming from its protection and defence contracts, including a lucrative deal to supply gas masks and breathing equipment to the MOD.

It’s dairy revenue, which is based around milking equipment, fell by one per cent to £31.7m.

Chief Executive Peter Slabbert said:  “I am delighted that the implementation of our strategy has delivered exceptionally strong growth in 2013. We expect to make further progress in both our protection and defence and dairy divisions in 2014”.
