Frustrated residents from Imber Road, Warminster, turned out in force at a Warminster Town Council meeting on Monday to complain about the increased traffic along their road.

Those living in the lower part of the road, from the junction with East Street and Boreham Road to the One Stop Shop, believe the narrow pavements combined with the heavy traffic make it an accident waiting to happen.

Complaints have been made to the council about congestion, parking along both sides of the road and the difficulties people with pushchairs have using narrow pavements.

Residents are calling for the road to either be made one way, a residents’ parking only area or to put double yellow lines along the eastern stretch, with almost a dozen complaints having been sent to the council.

Irene Dawkins, who lives in the road, said: “We are all quite concerned that something dreadful is going to happen. There is an awful lot we are worried about and something needs to be done.

“There are lots of people parking on the side of the road and it means that when the big lorries come along they have to mount the pavement to try and make it along the road, which is very dangerous.”

Adrian Ruck, who lives in the road with wife Louise and eight-year-old son Toby, said: “I work from home and I see the total chaos that happens several times a day along the road.

“As someone with a young child, my biggest concern is about road safety and there have been several occasions where vehicles have mounted the pavement.

“When I moved here 18 years ago it was much quieter, but the opening of Waitrose and the move of Lyons Seafood into Fairfield Road has made things worse. The situation is pretty dreadful.”

The council proposed that the residents’ concerns be passed on to the Community Area Transport Group and to see what options are available for Imber Road and the surrounding area.
