Cars old and new experienced the need for speed and a taste of track action all for a good cause on the charity track day, at Castle Combe Circuit, which raised £3,200 for The Forever Friends Appeal at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

The track day gave drivers the opportunity to experience speed in their own cars, in a controlled environment, at one of the longest established motor circuits in the UK.

On the day, cars ranged from a Ford GT40 replica and Maserati Ghibli to Mazda MX5, BMW M3 and Porsche 911. Classic cars included a Ford Escort RS2000, modified MG Midgets and a rapid Morris Minor.

Passenger rides were also popular for those wanting the chance to ride in a car of their dreams, in exchange for a donation.

Maria Fisher, of Castle Combe Circuit, said: “When Christopher Darwin, the track day organiser, asked me to choose a local charity I was only too pleased to help the Forever Friends Appeal at the RUH as my way of saying thank you for the care I received from the Lung Cancer Department in 2013; after both pre and post operation, the consultants and nurses had been so supportive.

"The total raised on the day was absolutely brilliant.”

The fundraising will be split between the RUH Cancer Care Campaign and the children’s ward.

Over the years, these ‘fun with a purpose’ track days have raised over £100,000 for a variety of good causes at circuits around the country.
